Applying Nail Polish to Last Longer

Ok, so you have lovely hands, your nails are all the same length and then you apply the polish and it all goes wrong! What a waste of time ……

Firstly, did you shake the bottle before you started?  Not good…  Shaking the bottle creates air bubbles consequently making the polish very difficult to apply evenly.  Try gently rolling the bottle between your fingers as when there is air in the bottle then applied, it is more likely to peel.

Nail polish stays on best when applied to clean non-oily nails so clean them first with nail polish remover and cotton wool pads to remove any oily greasy residue. 

Only paint your nails when you have plenty of time to let them dry.  There is no point in applying it beautifully then rushing off to do something and mucking it up.  Thick blobs are no good for applying polish, you really need two/three thin layers which will last much longer.  My nails happen to be very porous so I would recommend a really good base coat under a strong colour if you don’t want to dye your nails.

I don’t know about you but whenever I try and paint my nails in the summer it always seems to go wrong.  Too much heat sends the polish all thick.  A quick tip for getting them dry quicker is to dip your fingers in ice water for a couple of minutes after polishing and always apply a good top coat.  You can repeat the top coat every few days to keep your nails looking fabulous!

If your polish does chip then repair it!!!   All you need to does is rub down the edge of the chip and fill with your colour, let it dry and then paint the whole nail with colour again.  This should make it last a bit longer.
