Womens Charity – refuge.org.uk
refuge.org.uk
I’ve been thinking about maybe doing something in the way of supporting a charity or doing some sort of fund raising.
While doing some research I have come across a women’s charity www.refuge.org.uk.
Their Mission: They are committed to a world where domestic violence is not tolerated or ignored and where women and children can live in safety.
Every woman and child experiencing domestic violence has different needs – there is no single package of services to meet those needs, no ‘one size fits all’. Instead Refuge offers a range of services which increases women’s choices and gives them access to professional support whatever their situation.
Support Includes:
24-hour National Domestic Violence Freephone Helpline
The 24-hour National Domestic Violence Freephone Helpline (0808 2000 247), is run in partnership with Women’s Aid, is there for every woman, all the time. Staff on the helpline give emotional support and practical information, and refer women to refuges across the UK. All calls are confidential.
Refuges
They have a network of safe houses which offers women emergency accommodation and the time and space to make decisions about the future. Some of the refuges are for women from specific cultural backgrounds.
Plus lots more…….
Did you know that:
- One woman in four experiences domestic violence at some point in her life.
- Two women are killed each week by a current or former partner.
- Domestic violence accounts for almost a quarter of all violent crime.
- In 90% of domestic violence incidents children are in the same or next room.
- On average a woman will be assaulted by her partner or ex-partner 35 times before reporting it to the police
- These facts actually astonished me. I really didn’t realise just how much this goes on or how much women suffer at the hand of a violent partner.
Why not have a look at the website and in the meantime I will look a bit further into ways in which I can possibly help.
